Fathers and Families:
New Perspectives and Future Directions

The 2017 SRCD preconference on Fathers and Families: New Perspectives and Future Directions will focus on advancing research and measurement on the role of fathers for children’s development in the context of the family and is a follow-up to a SRCD-sponsored meeting held at the University of Michigan June 6 – 7, 2016.

We invite both junior and senior scholars with interests in fathering to participate in this meeting planned for Wednesday, April 5, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center to continue discussions on how to implement new perspectives on conducting research on fathering, deepening our definitions of fathering, and pursuing future research that facilitates an understanding of fathers from multidisciplinary, global, and family-oriented perspectives.

The meeting will include a full-day of activities that will consist of invited talks from renowned scholars of fathering research, break-out sessions on thematic topics, and opportunities for junior-senior networking opportunities. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the formal program will begin at 9:00 a.m. Keynote addresses and presentations will be held in room 10C; breakout sessions will be held in rooms 10A and 10B.

This first SRCD preconference of Fathers and Families is being organized by Dr. Brenda Volling ( and Dr. Natasha Cabrera ( and we look forward to others joining us in Austin, TX.

Preregistration for this preconference is required and costs $85/person (plus $5.67 for Eventbrite fees). This registration fee includes snacks, beverages, breakfast and lunch.
